Golf in Ixtapa
The two top golf courses in Ixtapa make this tropical destination a true paradise for lovers of this sport. Both have 18 holes and are at the opposite ends of the Hotel Zone, five minutes from each other by taxi. Zihuatanejo is only 10 minutes away. Both are renowned for their personalized caddy service and their expert staff.
The Palma Real Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1977 as a key element of the FONATUR Master Plan through which Ixtapa was conceived and developed as a modern tourist destination and this golf course was created in a palm orchard of coconut.
The Marina Golf Club Ixtapa was designed by Robert Von Hagge and opened in January 1994 as part of a multi-million dollar project of the Ixtapa Marina.
Palma Real Golf Course
A superb original copy of Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s designs, this 6,898-yard, par 72 course harmonizes with its surroundings, which in effect was a coconut palm orchard. The terrain maintains its natural lagoons and lush tropical vegetation to one side of the scenic Pacific coast. The Sierra Madre del Sur provides an incomparable mountain backdrop.
The players not only enjoy the best of golf but also of a closeness to nature. Different types of palm trees surround the field, as well as mango, guava, lemon, orange and almond trees. Brightly colored flowers accentuate the lavish vegetation.
Mexican and international ecologists have considered these lands as an ecological reserve. Golfers can see and hear a variety of exotic birds such as parrots, parrots, cardinals, and a rare and peculiar species of eagle called a fisherman because it feeds exclusively on fish from the lake. The ones that can be seen, most unheard of are rabbits and giant iguanas.
Do not try to remove balls from water ponds because crocodiles live in some of them. Normally they rest submerged and hidden, however, they do walk around in the morning.

Marina Golf Club Ixtapa
Robert von Hagge, famous for being the creator of one of the most outstanding golf courses in the world, designed this field of 6793 yards and par 72 with undulating canals, 12 bridges and a dune-evocative topography.
The land covers 136 acres, with extensive sand traps, small water ponds that shelter 14 of the 18 holes. There is no doubt why Golf Digest magazine has rated it as one of the best in Mexico.
The Mediterranean Club House has a restaurant and seating areas with balconies and panoramic windows overlooking the marina and golf course. Facilities include a golf shop, dressing rooms for ladies and gentlemen, tennis courts, and a pool.
